  • UCF College of Optics and Photonics
    The College of Optics & Photonics is recognized as one of the top three independent optics academic
    departments in the nation. The College offers interdisciplinary graduate programs leading to MS and Ph.D.
    degrees in Optics. CREOL, The Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers, and FPCE, the
    Florida Photonics Center of Excellence, are research centers within the college. The College of Optics &
    Photonics has grown to an internationally recognized institute with 28 faculty members, 12 faculty with joint
    appointments, 6 faculty with courtesy appointments, and 2 emeritus professors, 67 research scientists and 136
    graduate students with research activities covering all aspects of optics, photonics, and lasers. The College is
    housed in a state-of-the-art 83,000 sq. ft. building dedicated to optics research and education, which has been

    The Photonics Incubator is part of the UCF Incubator Network and is located on the UCF campus within the
    facilities of CREOL & FPCE, The College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida.  The
    Photonics Incubator is one of the ways that The College of Optics and Photonics fulfills one element of its
    mission, namely to “Aid the development of Florida’s and the nation’s high technology industries.” Companies in
    the Photonics Incubator have ready access to the CREOL faculty, graduate students, and CREOL laboratory
    facilities including the Nano-Fabrication CleanRoom and its Leica 5000 e-beam lithography instrument.  In

    distributed throughout several interdisciplinary centers and institutes. USF is designated as a “Research
    University” by the Carnegie Foundation, and had over $300 million dollars in research grants during the past
    year.  Optics and Photonics research span the disciplines of the College of Marine Science on Satellite IR
    imaging of ocean phytoplankton, development of new biosensors using LED  fluorescence of bio markers at the
    Center for BioDefense, to research in DNA mapping using laser based genome sequencing at the Moffitt
    Cancer Center. Much of the technology and intellectual property can be developed through the USF Research
